When the green flag dropped, we it went like this:
Kenny Bowes of Danville, VA, brings out the green flag for the Late Models
of Orange County Speedway. This is Bowes first Late Model race at Orange
County, but he currently runs at South Boston Speedway.
Bowes gets an awesome jump on the field, while Beggarly makes his way to
the front quick. Within a couple of laps of the green flag falling,
Beggarly dives to the inside of Deiny in the middle of one and two. The
Durham Harley Davidson Chevrolet completes the pass for second when he and
Deiny cross the start finish line.
The field is single file all the way back to fifth, with Beggarly slowly
reeling in the Sign Center Chevrolet of Bowes on lap 6. While a couple of
laps later McCaskill, who is back in action after many DNF’s, looks to
the inside of Patterson’s Chevrolet coming off of two. McCaskill’s
black and neon green machine falls back in line, settling for fifth with
Patterson in fourth.
By lap 9 Beggarly’s black Chevrolet caught the tailend of Bowes’ #80.
Beggarly puts the rookie to a test when he gives the Sign Center Chevrolet
a nudge in the left rear in turn four. The Rookie, Bowes, holds on while
Beggarly’s ride gets sideways causing him to lose ground for the lead.
The Durham Harley Davidson Chevrolet of Beggarly has trouble on his hands
when Deiny’s David Wescott Pontiac, gives him a challenge. On lap 13,
the two run door to door until a lap later when Deiny falls back in line.
Slowly Deiny inches ahead of the#82 Chevrolet.
The battle ends when the yellow is waved on lap 16 with Mike Chambers’
#77 Chambers Auto Monte Carlo, looping it around on the backstretch.
Chambers comes only a couple of feet away from then inside pit wall.
Bowes brings the field around for the caution with Deiny in second,
Beggarly third, Patterson fourth, and McCaskill in the fifth position.
Kirkpatrick, Dease, Triplett, Gullie, Gray, Kendrick, Hill, Clapp, Lawson,
Stovall, Clapp, Davis, Frate, and Chambers round out the rest of the
field.
As soon as the green flag is thrown, Deiny doesn't waste any time in
passing Bowes for the lead. By lap 17 Bowes and Deiny run neck to neck,
with Deiny completing the pass off of four for the lead. Beggarly, sitting
in third, sees an opportunity for the second position. The black #82
follows the tracks of Deiny and slides Bowes back to third.
The Late Model field runs single file, while the front two of Deiny and
Beggarly slowly take off from the field. On the other hand Bowes doesn't
get a break when lap 23 rolls around, because Patterson dives his Sandy
Stigall Chevrolet to the inside of Bowes. The go door to door in the
middle of three and four. Patterson clenches the third position a lap
later coming off of four. The field isn't done with Bowes. McCaskill,
Kirkpatrick, Dease, and Triplett fall in line to the inside of Bowes, to
slide him even further back. Bowes finally brings his Sign Center
Chevrolet to a stop in the eighth position.
Laps later on lap 34, Gullie looks to the inside of Bowes in the middle of
one and two. Gullie completes the move as well. Four laps later Bowes is
being played like a ping pong ball by Legendary Maurice Hill. Hill gets
into the side of Bowes coming off of two, pushing him all the way up the
track. The #07 of Hill gains a spot, while Keith Clapp sees an opening and
goes for it. Hill moves to the tenth, Clapp eleventh, and Bowes all the
way back to twelfth.
David Triplett Jr. moves his Wynn’s Pontiac to inside of Dease’s Pit
Stop Auto Sales Chevrolet, on lap 48 coming into three. Dease has nothing
for the Pontiac of Triplett two laps later when completes the gain on the
front stretch for all his fans to see. But by now in the race the lapped
cars become a major part in passing for position for lead lap cars.
That doesn’t stop Kirkpatrick’s #52 Bailey’s Chevrolet on lap59.
Kirkpatrick sticks his Chevrolet to back bumper of McCaskill’s #08.
Finally the Bailey’s Chevrolet gets a run on the McCaskill machine in
three, but his charge was cut short, when Kenny Bowes’ get loose coming
off of four looping it around on the front stretch on lap 64. Bowes brings
out the second caution of the night. While Bowes sits right on the start
finish line with a
broken rear end, the #17 of Beau Foust spins hitting Bowes hard in the
left front. Kendrick, Davis, and Collins go to there pits for adjustments,
while Bowes needs help from the track wrecker. Hill also brings his
Chevrolet in for his crew to surpassingly clean his windshield.
Deiny brings the field back around to recapture the green flag. Beggarly,
Patterson, McCaskill, Kirkpatrick, Triplett, Dease, Gullie, Gray, and
Clapp round out the top ten. Like before, both Deiny and Beggarly get an
excellent jump on the field. Beggarly goes for the lead on lap 65, pulling
to the bumper of Deiny like a magnet. Laps later Beggarly moves to the
inside of Deiny coming off of two. By lap 68 Beggarly falls back in line.
Keith Clapp gets the wind blowing when he spins coming off four, ending up
at the bottom apron on lap 76. Clapp brings his car back around real quick
in front of the leaders to stay on the lead lap. The Clapp’s Nursing
Home #36 causes the leaders to stand on their tiptoes, squirming every
which a way causing the third caution of the night.
Not even twenty laps later on lap 90, Hill taps Stovall in the rear ever
so slightly off of two. Stovall slides to the bottom of the track out of
harms way. When the green is waved once more Deiny leads the field on,
while Beggarly tries a last minute move on Deiny. Beggarly looks to the
inside, but the David Wescott Pontiac of Deiny is too strong for even
Beggarly to pass.
Deiny brings out the checkered flag for the first 100 lapper. Beggarly
comes home in second, Patterson third, McCaskill fourth, Kirkpatrick
fifth, Triplett, Dease, Gullie, Gray, and Hill round out the top ten.
The second Late Model Race of the night started with Kirkpatrick’s
Bailey’s Chevrolet sitting on the pole. Deiny’s David Wescott Pontiac;
Wayne Patterson’s Sandy Stigall Chevrolet; Deac McCaskill’s Wilders
Inc. Chevrolet; David Triplett’s Wynn’s Pontiac; Beggarly’s Durham
Harley Davidson Chevrolet; Gullies’ Wynn’s Pontiac, Chambers’
Chambers Auto Chevrolet; Clapp’s Clapp Nursing Home Chevrolet; and
Gray’s
Timberlake Shell sitting in the top ten.
When the green is thrown a lap later the yellow was out. Eric Clapp’s
#98 gets loose and spins to the bottom apron out of two. During the
caution, Kirkpatrick and Dease pit for adjustments, which neither one went
a lap down.
As soon as the green was waved Beggarly starts his path to the front.
Beggarly looks to the inside of Patterson in the middle of one and two,
but falls back in line. Deiny gradually creeps away from the field as they
battle for position. Beggarly dives to the inside of Patterson one more
time, pulling door to door on lap13. Beggarly gets sideways causing
Patterson to gain more ground than what he already had. When Beggarly
regains his
composure he pulls back up to the bumper of Patterson down the
backstretch. Lapped cars cause Beggarly to fall back in line behind
Patterson. Finally they pull neck to neck, with Beggarly completing the
pass coming into one.
McCaskill, Triplett, and Gullie reel in the bumper of Patterson around lap
23. McCaskill drives his Chevrolet high on the track, while Triplett and
Gullie stick to bottom like glue. This causing the Wynn’s team to gain
ground inch by inch on McCaskill.
The second caution of the night comes on lap 27, when Mike Chambers gets
together with Eric Clapp, causing Chambers to get loose and spin to the
bottom of the front stretch apron.
When the green is waved Triplett goes to work on McCaskill. Triplett pulls
door to door with #08 Chevrolet in the middle of one and two. The Pontiac
of Triplett moves on to the fourth position coming off of four. Triplett
is still on the move. The next target in line is the Sandy Stigall
Chevrolet of Patterson. Triplett passes the Patterson machine coming off
of four as well.
The third caution of the night comes out when Kirkpatrick gets into the
side of Clapp, with Clapp spinning to the left then back to the right
pinning Kirkpatrick into the backstretch wall. There was no major damage
to either cars on lap 56.
Deiny takes the green for the last time of the night, but this time
Beggarly and Triplett are not that far behind. While Beggarly has his eyes
set on Deiny, Triplett has his on Beggarly. Triplett gets to the inside of
Beggarly down the front stretch later pulling side by side through the
laps of 65 through 67. On the last lap Triplett
pulls to the side of Beggarly coming off of two. He then brings the
Wynn’s Pontiac pass the #82 Durham Harley Davidson machine as soon as
they cross for the checkered flag.
Deiny once again gets a win with Triplett’s last minute move to give him
the second position. Beggarly finishes third, Patterson fourth, Dease
fifth, McCaskill, Hill, and Gray rounding out the top eight.
